IODP DRILLING PROPOSAL WORKSHOP

FINAL REPORT

The Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) is the world's largest and most successful earth science research program. The Program is funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and 21 international partners to conduct basic research into the history of the ocean basins and the overall nature of the crust beneath the ocean floor using the scientific drill ship JOIDES Resolution. A group of 14 U.S. institutions manages the program and is known as the Joint Oceanographic Institutions (JOI). JOI is based in Washington, D.C. Texas A&M University Drilling Program (TAMU) is the Science Operator. Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University provides Logging Services and administers the Site Survey Data Bank. Canada has been a member since 1985 and currently participates as a 1/3 member as part of the Pacific Rim Consortium (PacRim) with Australia, Chinese Taipei, and South Korea. The Canadian Secretariat for the ODP organizes and supports Canadian participation and informs Canadian geoscientists of ODP activities.
